A network engineer in Virginia runs a main Rio plus extenders. Two work rooms, one family room, one shared printer. Colors are SecureRooms, not walls.

The problem

One router can’t reach every room.

Walls, floors and distance eat Wi-Fi. The rooms farthest away pay for it.

One router
  • The far bedroom buffers every show.
  • Calls drop in the office over the garage.
  • The den gets one bar on a good day.
Rio Mesh
  • A Rio near the far rooms fills the gap.
  • One Wi-Fi name and password, everywhere.
  • The same rooms and rules on every Rio.

How Rio Mesh works

Extenders add reach. The main Rio keeps the rules.

  • One Wi-Fi name. One password.

Your devices see a single network in every room.

  • Same rooms, same rules.

Extenders pass traffic to the main Rio, so your protection still applies.

  • Wi-Fi or a cable.

Link each extender over the air, or run an Ethernet cable.

The rules run on the main Rio, so they cover internet traffic from every extender. Up to 8 Rios: 1 main plus up to 7 extenders.

Add a second Rio

Setup

Add a Rio in three steps.

Start on your main Rio. Then set up the new one.

  1. Turn on mesh on your main Rio.

In the app: Settings › Wireless mesh › Controller. Nothing is erased.

  2. Make the new Rio an extender.

Set it up in the app, then choose Extender. This resets the new Rio.

  3. Pair the two Rios.

Connect an Ethernet cable, or hold WPS for 5 seconds on both. Solid blue means paired.

How many Rios can I connect?

Up to 8 in total: your main Rio plus up to 7 extenders. Each covers up to 4,800 sq ft, so up to 38,000 sq ft together.

Do SecureRooms and Rio VPN work on extenders?

Yes, for internet traffic. Extenders pass it back to your main Rio, which runs your SecureRooms, device approval and Rio VPN.

Will I see a second Wi-Fi name?

No. Every Rio shares one Wi-Fi name and password, so your devices see one network all over the house.

Does an extender need a cable?

No. An extender can link to the main Rio over Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable. Use whichever suits the room.

Why does my phone keep asking for approval?

Many phones use a private Wi-Fi address that can change. Approve your phone once in the Rio app, matching the address in your phone’s Wi-Fi settings. Still asking? Turn off the private address for your Rio network.

Fill every dead zone. Keep every lock.

Add a Rio for the far bedroom, the garage office or the den.
