What Rio does, and doesn’t do.

HIPAA covers far more than Wi-Fi. Rio handles the network part.

Topic Rio handles it Still on you
Segmentation Clinical machines walled off in a SecureRoom Deciding which devices touch patient data
Device access New devices wait for your approval Securing the computers and phones themselves
BAAs Doesn’t sign business associate agreements BAAs with your EHR and other vendors
HIPAA paperwork No risk assessments, no certification Your risk analysis, policies and training

Rio does not make a practice HIPAA compliant. The router doesn’t store your patient files.

Rio’s Wi-Fi uses WPA2 Personal, with a separate password per room.

Does Rio make my practice HIPAA compliant?

No, and no router can. HIPAA covers risk analysis, policies, training and much more. Rio handles one part: keeping clinical machines on a network of their own, away from guests and gadgets.

Does HIPAA require network segmentation?

Not by name today. In January 2025, HHS proposed making it required. As of October 2026 it is still a proposal, with final action targeted for July 2027. Walling off clinical machines makes sense either way.

Will Rio sign a BAA?

No, Rio doesn’t sign BAAs. The router doesn’t store your patient files. Ask your HIPAA advisor which vendors need a BAA, such as your EHR, billing or backup providers.

I see clients from home. Does Rio work for telehealth?

Yes. Your work laptop gets its own SecureRoom, away from the family’s consoles and tablets. Rio VPN is optional. Ask your HIPAA advisor before using it for patient work, and check with your EHR vendor, since some limit logins by location.

What does Rio cost?
