Common Questions

Firmware of the router is usually updated automatically when needed. In some cases, manually updating the firmware may be required. In that case, here are the instructions for updating Rio Router Firmware manually:

Step 1: Download the firmware file

  1. On a PC or laptop with internet access, open:
    https://account.riorouter.com
  2. Log in using the same email and password you use for the Rio mobile app.
  3. On the Home screen, locate Rio Router and click Firmware Download
⚠️ Do not click Buy Now — firmware download is free.
  4. Download the firmware file and note the folder where it is saved.

Important notes:

  • Download the file only once. Multiple downloads may add characters like (1) or (2) to the filename.
  • The filename must remain unchanged (no extra characters).
  • For instance, current firmware filename:

EAI2326-D377-RT_V1.00.36_sysupgrade_emmc_firmware_wififw.bin

Step 2: Connect your PC directly to the Rio router

  1. Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the back of the Rio router.
  2. On your PC, open Wi-Fi settings and connect to the router’s Wi-Fi network:
  • Network name starts with Rio-XXXX
  • Do not select networks labeled managed, share, or guests

3. Confirm the router LED is solid green before proceeding.

Step 3: Upload and install the firmware

⚠️ Do not power off or restart the router during this step.

  1. Open Firefox (recommended).
  2. In the address bar, enter one of the following:
  • or http://192.168.50.1

3. If a security warning appears:

  • Click Advanced
  • Select Continue to website

4. Log in using the admin password:

  • If never set, the default password is printed on the bottom of the router (under SSID).
  • You may change it after login.

5. From the dashboard:

  • Select Settings
  • Click Firmware (top-right). If not visible, click the square menu icon → Advanced

6. Click Select File, then choose the firmware file downloaded from step 1

7. Click Upload

8. Wait until the progress bar reaches 100%

⚠️ You may see an error message at the end due to no internet connection. This is expected and can be safely ignored.

Step 4: Reset the router to default settings

  1. Return to the setup portal.
  2. Select Configuration → Reset
  3. Click Reset to Default
  4. Reconnect the Ethernet cable to the WAN port (blue or green).
  • If connecting directly to a modem, reboot the modem (power off for 10 seconds).

5. Wait until the router LED is solid green.

Having antivirus software is important for protecting your device from malware, but it doesn't replace the need for a VPN. While antivirus focuses on detecting and removing malicious software, a VPN encrypts your internet connection, protecting your online activity from hackers, trackers, and even your internet service provider. If you frequently use public Wi-Fi, want to browse privately, or access region-restricted content, a VPN offers added security and privacy that antivirus alone can't provide. Using both together gives you more complete protection.

VPN protocols differ in their balance of security, speed, and compatibility. OpenVPN is widely trusted for its strong encryption and reliability, though it may be slower than newer options. WireGuard offers cutting-edge security with much faster performance due to its lightweight design. IKEv2/IPSec is ideal for mobile devices thanks to its fast reconnection and stability when switching networks.

No, all updates are free to keep your devices performing at their best.

Rio Antivirus protects against a wide range of digital threats, including viruses, worms, trojans, spyware, adware, ransomware, rootkits, and other malicious or unwanted programs that can damage systems, steal data, or compromise security.

Currently, Rio Antivirus only supports the most common platform which is Windows. Windows 10 and 11 are fully supported.

Rio Antivirus does not access nor store any personal information on the user system.
