Do ethics rules really cover my home Wi-Fi?

ABA Formal Opinion 498 says lawyers working virtually should make sure their routers are secure and consider a VPN. It rests on Model Rule 1.6(c): reasonable efforts to prevent unauthorized access. States adopt rules differently, so check yours.

Does Rio make my firm compliant?

No, and no router can. Rio handles the network layer: a walled-off room for client work, device approval, Rio VPN for that room and guest Wi-Fi. Encryption, passwords, software and your state’s rules stay with you.

What if my firm is breached?

ABA Formal Opinion 483 says lawyers must tell current clients when a breach involves, or likely involves, their confidential information. State laws can add more. Rio makes a breach through your network harder. Nothing makes one impossible.

Will Rio work with my practice software and VPN?

Yes. Rio is your router, so cloud tools and email work as usual. Rio VPN runs only in the rooms you choose. If you already use another VPN, keep it and leave Rio VPN off for that room.

What does Rio cost?

$199.99, including 1 year of Rio VPN. After that, Rio VPN is optional at $7.99 a month or $79.99 a year. Shipping is free, with 30-day returns and a 1-year warranty. Support is by email, from a real person.
